Addictions Counsellor III
Your Opportunity:
Fort McMurray Recovery Centre is a bed-based addiction treatment facility serving individuals experiencing problematic substance use. The Addiction Counsellor conducts comprehensive assessments, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, provides one-on-one counselling, and facilitates therapeutic groups and educational workshops. The role also includes case management, discharge and aftercare planning, documentation and reporting, collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, crisis intervention, and participation in program development and quality improvement initiatives. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:Previous experience in working with individuals with problematic substance use.
Preferred Qualifications:Related counselling experience in addiction and mental health is an asset. Recent experience within the past three years in bed-based addiction services is preferred. Professional registration under the Health Professions Act is preferred. Strong assessment and time management skills are assets. Demonstrated reliability and consistent, punctual attendance are required to meet operational needs.
