Your Opportunity:

Are you passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based care to patients during critical moments in their lives? The Concurrent Disorder Unit (CDU), opening at the Peter Lougheed Centre, is seeking experienced Addiction Counsellor IIIs (ACIII) to join our multidisciplinary team. The CDU is a twelve-bed inpatient unit intended to support patients with concurrent mental health and substance use disorders. This will include both voluntary and involuntary patients. The team will provide evidence-based stabilization and recovery-oriented care for adults requiring medical withdrawal management and acute psychiatric stabilization. As an ACIII, you will deliver individual and group sessions using evidence-based, trauma informed approaches, support patients and families through assessment and care planning and provide education and relapse prevention strategies tailored to patient needs. You will collaborate with Social Workers, Nurses, physicians, and other professionals on the multi-disciplinary team to ensure holistic care. You will maintain accurate documentation and uphold ethical standards in all interactions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic environment, bring creativity and innovation to therapeutic approaches, and maintain a culturally competent and equity-informed practice. You will uphold ethical conduct and professionalism, communicate effectively with youth, families, and colleagues. A commitment to continuous learning, strong self-motivation, and prioritizing self-care are essential to success in this role.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience working with at risk populations in an addiction and mental health capacity. Experience providing addiction counselling, group sessions, and/or completion of a specialized addiction training program. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries are required. Skilled in Motivational Interviewing. Understanding of cultural safety and indigenous health perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of addiction and recovery principles, and trauma informed care. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy skills are an asset.
