Your Opportunity:

Recovery Alberta (RA) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Addiction Counsellor to join our team. This temporary full-time position is based at Wood Buffalo Addiction & Mental Health Services (WAMHS) in Fort McMurray, working Monday to Friday (evening availability required). The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to support a variety of programs, including the Walk-In Clinic, Travel Team, and Community Addiction Services. In this Addiction Counsellor III position, you will deliver both individual and group treatment within an interdisciplinary care model. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Recovery Alberta currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring: Comprehensive knowledge of addiction treatment resources and community services. Experience and confidence in facilitating in-person and virtual treatment groups. A valid Class V driver’s licence and willingness to travel to rural communities. Availability to work evenings as required.
