Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Addiction Counsellor III position is responsible in providing the provision of specialized treatment and prevention/education services addressing alcohol, other drug and gambling concerns for youth and adults. Specific duties include Counseling: Work with clients and significant collaterals to provide information, facilitate successful resolution of crises, and promote appropriate interventions. Provide ongoing individual and family counseling to promote personal development and recovery. Plan, conduct and evaluate assigned counseling groups as part of treatment. Assessment/Referral: Conduct client screening and assessments using established AHS protocols. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with clients to address identified problems and goals. Make referrals to other programs and services where appropriate. Linking and liaising with other professionals and Health care providers for services or access to services.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years’ experience in addictions services in a community setting. Must have active registration within the Health Professions Act and with the respective provincial governing body.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Social Work, Master of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing, or Master of Nursing. 5 years’ experience in addiction services in a community setting is preferred.
