Your Opportunity:

The Art Therapist (HSAA) position provides services and programs to all program areas at Alberta Hospital Edmonton including Rehabilitation, Forensics, Adult Acute Services, Young Adult Services, Child, Family and Youth Services, and Addiction Services. The position requires independence, creativity, adaptability to various environments, patient needs, and abilities. The Art Therapist will offer evidence based individual and group programming for patients on the site in collaboration with members of the Interdisciplinary Team. They will outline sessions, ensure patient safety and readiness, provide therapeutic space, and support activities that will improve patient recovery, wellness and experience at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. This is a grant funded position and will support the formal development of an Arts Therapy program at AHE. The Art Therapist will also engage with and work collaboratively with stakeholders to establish program structure, evaluation, reporting and promotional events.

Description:

As a Clinical Behavioural Specialist (CBS), you will work in a consultative role within the interdisciplinary team. You will support the client in the following ways: psychological testing, crisis intervention, observation and interaction throughout the development and analysis of behaviour tracking data, the creation of programs and guidelines that focus on client strengths, the development of a collaborative recovery client focused care plan. You will be responsible for providing a holistic perspective of the clients' health, well-being and level of functioning, in a manner that contributes to the clients' quality of life. Essential to the skill set of the CBS is your ability to demonstrate leadership in terms of program development, administrative responsibilities and mentoring through the model of hands-on recovery-oriented care, as well as assisting with maintaining standards relating to health, safety, and operations of the home and activity area.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Psychology. Minimum of two years' experience in a Mental Health setting. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS - HCP). Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification. Possession of a valid driver's licence and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Art Therapy, or a graduate level degree in Art Therapy from a program approved by the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA). Must be a member of Canadian Art Therapy Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

Clinical experience as an Art Therapist with individuals with Mental Health and Addictions concerns. Experience facilitating groups and 1:1 sessions. Critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge of art therapy are required. The art therapist will function in a recovery-oriented approach and in accordance with the professional standards of practice of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. They will have experience with program development and design.
