Your Opportunity:

An exciting leadership opportunity exists in the Turningpoint Program, Unit 3-6, at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Turningpoint is an 18 bed inpatient forensic program providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to youth with legal standing under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Assistant Head Nurse will provide leadership to the program, ensuring all components are aligned with the Organization’s operational plans, goals, and initiatives. The role is responsible for the provision and coordination of quality patient care. Duties include planning and organizing day to day operations, coordination and monitoring of unit activities, supporting the supervision of nursing and support staff, and assisting with recruitment. The Assistant Head Nurse also performs nursing duties on the unit and oversees patient care in collaboration with the Unit Psychiatrist. This position acts as a liaison between multiple disciplines including psychiatry, and relevant internal and external stakeholders within the community and justice institutions.

Description:

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of formal or informal nursing leadership experience. A demonstrated ability to mobilize and sustain effective teamwork and communicate effectively and professionally to advance collaborative practice. A minimum of three years of psychiatric nursing practice within an acute, inpatient setting is also required. Knowledge of adolescent development, DSM V, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and best practices in psychiatric nursing are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with nursing leadership and clinical experience in youth corrections and/or forensic treatment environments.
