Assistant Head Nurse
Your Opportunity:
An exciting leadership opportunity is available in the Turningpoint Program (Unit 3‑6) at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, an 18‑bed inpatient forensic unit supporting youth under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and those experiencing acute psychiatric disruption. As Assistant Head Nurse, you will provide steady, practical leadership that strengthens a positive, supportive team culture while ensuring high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will guide day‑to‑day clinical operations, coordinate and monitor unit activities, support and mentor nursing and support staff, and contribute to recruitment and workforce planning. You will also maintain direct clinical involvement, overseeing patient care in collaboration with the Unit Psychiatrist and working closely with interdisciplinary partners across health, community, and justice services. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to influence care delivery, grow as a clinical leader, and support youth in making positive change in their lives. If this sounds like the right next step for you, we’d love to hear from you.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers.
