Family Counsellor
Your Opportunity:
The Family Counsellor clinical position supports mental health assessment, risk assessment, and intervention for children and youth (5-18 years), and their families, as well as consultation and capacity building with clinical staff and internal and external partners. This position interfaces with multiple dynamic, innovative, and committed multidisciplinary team members, including Mental Health Therapists, Addiction Counsellors, Clinic Nurses, Social Workers, Physicians, Psychiatrists, and Administrative Support staff. The Family Counsellor position works together with clients, families, and collaborators to develop treatment plans and interventions that support the therapeutic goals. As such, the candidate must have well developed assessment and therapeutic intervention skills, a solid grounding in a family systems framework, and a proven ability to provide evidence-based treatment. Participation in program development and evaluation will also be required. Additionally, this position requires strong collaborative skills, an understanding of the value of partnerships and connection with community partners, and the ability to coordinate service delivery with other aspects of health services. This position may support multiple sites and is currently located out of the Nexus Business Park. This position is a six-month temporary position within the Recovery Alberta Children, Youth, and Families portfolio.
Description:
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Master's degree in occupational therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing, with considerable experience in mental health assessment and the provision of psychotherapy. Registered Social Workers must be authorized to perform psychosocial interventions, and designation as a Clinical Social Worker is preferred. An equivalent level of education and experience may be considered. Registration in a professional regulatory body as defined by the Health Professions Act (CRNA, CRPNA, ACOT, CAP, ACSW). Must have formal clinical training and knowledge in child and adolescent mental health. Must have family therapy skills, supplemented by strong communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively & contribute positively to change in emerging services/programs. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in community mental health setting providing mental health treatment to children, youth & their families who have complex addiction and mental health issues. Experience providing expert clinical consultation to professionals. Knowledge of community resources for children and adolescents. Ability to manage a varied caseload and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to work from a patient and family centered perspective within diverse populations. Previous experience working with trauma. Ability to handle crisis and stressful situations in a calm facilitative manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with Child and Family Services, Disability Services (FSCD), schools and other health partners, multicultural groups, program development. and community resources for children and adolescents is preferred.
