Unit 21 and 22 at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) are adult psychiatric in-patient units that provide exceptional patient and family centered care. We have a robust multidisciplinary team that all contributes their specialty and expertise towards the rapid stabilization of individuals navigating mental health disorders. We collaboratively contribute to every patient’s plan of care in a positive and productive manner. In this position, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop a robust plan of care to stabilize patients suffering from acute psychiatric illness. Your responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions, with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs. Your scope of practice will encompass physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution. Additionally, you will engage in discharge planning that promotes, maintains, and restores mental health, while preventing mental illness injury, and disability. In this role, you will also be responsible for facilitating and delivering applicable group content to the patients. Your communication skills will be instrumental in effectively engaging with other departments, services, and clients, ensuring the seamless provision of high-quality care. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Recovery Alberta policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status examination. Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. 6 months of Addictions and Mental health experience within the last 3 years. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources preferred. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies.
