Unit 10-2 is an adult acute assessment and treatment unit under the Recovery Alberta Adult Acute portfolio. Unit 10-2 provides patient and family-centered care, with all team members working within the CoACT collaborative care model. Reporting to the unit manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for adults presenting with acute mental health and addictions concerns. The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide safe, effective, and stage-matched nursing care according to clinical policies, procedures, and evidence-based nursing care standards. The Licensed Practical Nurse works within a concurrent capable, recovery-oriented framework, within the context of a multidisciplinary team.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Recovery Alberta policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act. Working knowledge and understanding of psychotropic medications, psychopathology, Restraint as a Last Resort, and the principles of trauma-informed care. The Licensed Practical Nurse must have the ability to effectively collaborate with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals in the provision of care. The Licensed Practical Nurse must demonstrate excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills, along with the flexibility, tolerance, and ability to deal with challenging situations. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are also required, as well as the ability to independently identify learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates who have recent experience in an Adult Acute Mental Health nursing role, as well as experience working with clients with concurrent disorders. The ability to appropriate assess and manage behavioural emergencies and withdrawal from multiple substances. Experience working within a CoACT model of care is preferred, as well as completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
