Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Mental Health Aides require registration in the HCA Directory. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Strong and fluent verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required) that supports verbal messages being received and understood. High emotional awareness of self and others. Active listening skills. Congruent non-verbal communication skills. Has the ability to establish and maintain relationships built on mutual respect, appropriate sensitivity and transparency, empathy and compassion with patients & families, colleagues, professional and medical staff. Has sound self-management skills – being able to manage own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances and think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Works cooperatively and productively with others. Enhance, support, empower and otherwise increase patient engagement in treatment and change. Has demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks. Has an excellent attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications:Post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services. Mental Health Aide Certificate (equivalencies may be considered). Minimum 2 years’ experience working with persons with an addiction and/or mental health issue – preferably in a hospital setting.
