Your Opportunity:

The Integrated Crisis and Access Team (ICAT) at Aberdeen Adult Addictions and Mental Health in Grande Prairie provides rapid-access, single-session addiction and mental health services to adults experiencing urgent mental health and substance use concerns. This is a unique opportunity to work within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary walk-in environment focused on timely assessment, crisis intervention, stabilization, and connection to ongoing supports and services. ICAT operates as an adult walk-in clinic serving individuals 18 years of age and older who require immediate access to addiction and mental health support. The team is composed of Mental Health Therapists and Addiction Counsellors who work collaboratively to provide client-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and concurrent-capable care. Services include crisis assessment, suicide risk assessment, brief therapeutic intervention, safety planning, system navigation, consultation, referral, and coordination with community and internal Addiction and Mental Health programs. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will utilize evidence-informed approaches and single-session therapy principles to support individuals presenting with a broad range of mental health, psychosocial, addiction, and crisis-related concerns. This position requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to work effectively within high-acuity situations, and the capacity to engage individuals in a brief yet meaningful therapeutic encounter that promotes stabilization and connection to appropriate ongoing resources. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with a collaborative multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders while contributing to accessible, responsive, and high-quality addiction and mental health care within the North Zone.

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of relevant addiction and mental health experience, preferably within a crisis, walk-in, urgent, or community mental health setting. Demonstrated experience completing mental health and suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization planning, and brief therapeutic counselling. Strong working knowledge of single-session therapy principles, trauma-informed practice, recovery-oriented care, and concurrent disorder treatment approaches. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing competing demands and high-acuity presentations. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills are required. Extensive knowledge of community addiction and mental health resources and the ability to support effective service navigation and referral processes. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, RA currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working within adult walk-in addiction and mental health services is preferred. Training and/or experience in single-session therapy, crisis stabilization, suicide intervention, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral approaches, or solution-focused therapy would be considered an asset.
