Your Opportunity:

Access Mental Health is a single point of contact for individuals seeking support for addiction and/or mental health concerns. The population served through this centralized access and intake department includes children, adolescents, families and adults. The Mental Health Clinician reports to the program manager and is tasked with telephone-based clinical triage, interviewing, assessment, brief intervention, crisis intervention, resourcing and/or referral for individuals across the lifespan. The Mental Health Clinician requires a wide personal skillset as any member of the public may reach out for help. This clinical role is a part of a multidisciplinary team that works in an integrated and collaborative way with other registered social workers, nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists. More specifically, the Mental Health Clinician needs to be comfortable providing clinical advice and intervention in a non-face-to-face fashion, largely independently. Further, they need to be skilled in active listening, motivational interviewing and typing while being spoken to.

Description:

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must hold current full registration with a regulated professional body under the Health Professions Act. Minimum 2 years’ directly related work experience in the field of community-based addiction and mental health. Minimum 2 years direct experience with clinical mental health triage, interviewing, needs assessment, brief intervention, crisis intervention and system navigation in a community setting. Strong knowledge of addiction and mental health disorders across populations and experience in using the DSM-V diagnostic system. Extensive working knowledge of the addiction and mental health systems and ecosystems of care and resources within the Calgary area. Strong critical thinking, clinical triage, mental health assessment and intervention skills. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively liaison with various professionals within and outside of the immediate work unit/department. Ability to work confidently, independently and as a member of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner. Proficiency in live time clinical documentation and comfort/competence with computer navigation and data entry. Ability to work in a sedentary job.
