Your Opportunity:

As part of the Allied Heath & Patient Experience (AHPE) team at Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE), the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) is primarily responsible for direct clinical service to individuals with complex mental health and addictions related concerns. The successful candidate will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in assessment, consultation, referral, crisis management, case management and treatment. This centralized position will focus on recovery and strengths-based interventions to support the patient, and their families, with their identified areas of need. This will include collaboration with external providers to support discharge planning, including referrals to community and/or residential addictions treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Heart & Stroke Foundation – BLS. 3-5 years of direct mental health clinical experience in comprehensive mental health assessment and the provision of psychotherapy. Must have knowledge and experience supporting individuals with concerns related to substance use/misuse, including supporting individuals through stages of change, and supporting with referrals to community resources and residential treatment. Must be authorized to perform restricted activities – psychosocial interventions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification and experience in therapeutic interventions, including but not limited to, effective de-escalation techniques, CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness.
