Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Virtual Opioid Dependency Program, and with the support of the Clinical Supervisor, the Mental Health Therapist will offer harm reduction focused, mental health and addiction services to VODP clients across the province. As a Mental Health Therapist, you will work within an interdisciplinary environment to provide harm reduction focused, culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, education and referral services for opioid dependent clients and their families. You practice from a strength-based perspective utilizing the modalities of motivational intervening and solution-focused therapy. The successful applicant is an assertive, proactive individual with a strong foundation in mental health resolution, critical thinking and decision-making skills. You have experience in group facilitation, community networking and providing educational opportunities for staff. Within this role, the incumbent will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least instrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. Provides consultation with community Physicians, Pharmacists, and other mental health and addictions supports. The incumbent will also remain current and up to date on addictions treatment theory and principles. The Mental Health Therapist will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team and provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:A combination of related education and experience may be considered in the following programs. Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and authorized by ACSW with a Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with: Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Minimum of 4 years of relevant mental health experience. Strong working knowledge of the addiction and mental health system across the province and the ability to locate resources that may be useful for callers based on clinical judgement. Advanced skills in assessment and intervention for individuals of all ages with addiction and mental health concerns, including crisis intervention skills. Strong knowledge of mental health and substance use concerns. Excellent keyboarding skills of minimum 60 wpm and proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel), Zoom, Genesis etc.
Preferred Qualifications:Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care, working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing. 3 years’ experience working with individuals with Addictions and Mental Health issues. 3 years’ experience in counselling. Experience working in an Opioid Agonist Treatment Program.
