Calgary Remand Centre (CRC) is a maximum security provincial correctional facility dedicated to providing patient centered and trauma informed care for adult individuals. Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive primary health care services to adults in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre. Working within an interdisciplinary correctional health team, the NP practices to full scope under Alberta legislation, delivering assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, health promotion, and chronic disease management services. The role requires strong clinical judgment, autonomy, and the ability to work effectively in a secure environment while maintaining therapeutic, professional relationships.
Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Authorization to prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests in Alberta. Minimum of 2–3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience (primary care or acute care preferred). Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage complex patients. Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in correctional health, emergency, primary care, mental health, or addictions. Trauma informed, culturally safe, and patient centered approach to care. Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations.
