Your Opportunity:

Physician Assistants (PA) are academically prepared and are highly skilled health care professionals who provide a broad range of medical services. As important members of the collaborative care team, Recovery Alberta (RA) provides alternative job opportunities for PAs to act as health care extenders, working under the supervision and direction of a physician to complement existing services and aid in improving patient care. Physician Assistants are fully regulated health professionals in Alberta and must be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). In this position the PA will deliver acute care to patients at the South Health Campus (SHC) in Calgary including after hours and on weekends and statutory holidays when no resident is available within a multidisciplinary team in Addiction and Mental Health, Calgary Zone. And provide cross coverage at other acute care sites across the Calgary area. The incumbent would be responding to psychiatric consults in the ER and throughout the hospital as well as addressing transfers from and to other sites and emerging issues on any of our inpatient units. The Department of Psychiatry provides comprehensive clinical care for patients with complex conditions in a variety of settings. We are clinicians, researchers, educators, and administrators focused on improving health and care delivery. Calgary is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with a population of over 1.4 million people and an excellent school system. Besides the rich academic environment, Calgary offers a wide array of sporting facilities and easy access to recreational parks including Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country. Description:

You will be working alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, family therapists, pharmacists and dieticians. Job duties often include examination of the patient, documenting the history, conducting a complete physical examination, developing a treatment plan in consultation with the attending/supervising physician, writing appropriate orders, and entering these orders into the patient care electronic or manual system. Clinical research is important in this field of practice, and the care of patients registered on research trials is an important part of the role. You may be required to be part of the process within your given hours of work. Appropriate supervision and support is provided and this will begin with a formal orientation and assessment. Required Qualifications:

The applicant should have or be eligible for CPSA registration. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The successful applicant will be responsible for registering and maintaining professional licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).


Additional Required Qualifications:

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada (e.g. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals with open work permits). As well, applicants must be able to satisfy the CPSA's criteria for registration as a Physician Assistant.


Preferred Qualifications:

It is anticipated this will be a highly competitive job posting. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility.
