The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury provides care and treatment for those individuals experiencing a severe and persistent mental illness to support recovery. Reporting to the unit manager, the Psychiatric Aide will be working within a client centered treatment approach and will be responsible for providing patient/family support, discharge planning, group facilitation and individual work with clients working within a psychosocial rehabilitation philosophy. You will report all relevant patient information to a Staff Nurse/Unit Manager. Description:
As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patients mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Sound observation and communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary psychiatric and rehabilitation setting. Able to handle the physical demands of the position and perform duties that involve periods of standing, walking, bending, and turning. Ability to provide basic patient care and comfort required. Able to provide cognitive, social, emotional and psychological support to the patient/family. Maintain a standard of high-quality care, self-directed and motivated. Actively integrates Patient and Family Centered Care principles into practice. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with safety. Maintain patient/family confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:At least six months of experience working in a psychosocial rehab setting.
