Your Opportunity:
The Turningpoint Program (Unit 3-6) at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is an 18-bed inpatient forensic unit that supports youths and young adults who are in conflict with the law. The Turningpoint Program provides assessment, stabilization, short- and long-term treatment to youth with legal standing under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Stabilization is also provided to youths experiencing an acute psychiatric disturbance. The Turningpoint Program is a very dynamic and unique program, and the successful candidate will be skilled with engagement, de-escalation skills and healthy boundaries, while providing excellent care in a collaborative team environment. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with clinical policies and nursing care standards. The ideal candidate will have strong, appropriate clinical boundaries with an ability to effectively manage and treat an adolescent population. The position requires an excellent understanding of common diagnoses, such as Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Depression and Anxiety. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team; accurate and efficient documentation and charting skills; and a proven competency to deliver a high-quality standard of care. Candidates must have a demonstrated proficiency in successfully managing and de-escalating complex, challenging, and volatile behaviors.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). A minimum of 2 years clinical experience in psychiatric, mental health or forensic nursing settings and a working knowledge of the DSMV is required. Certification in Suicide Prevention and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention is also required.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with experience providing nursing care to an adolescent population.
