Your Opportunity:

As a Registered nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit and Psychiatric Emergency Services collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. You provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, psychiatric assessments, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. The opportunity to be a strong advocate for the patient is an integral role as you will facilitate the appeal process for patient certification as well as speaking to the patient’s level of functioning in front of an AMH review panel board. You will develop your group facilitation skills as all nursing staff within AMH are responsible for facilitating and delivering group content to the patients. This position is a regularized relief float position where you would be working and covering in multiple units. You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At FMC you would be covering for Units 21, 22, Psychiatric Emergency Services, rTMS and ECT.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status examination. Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. 6 months of Addictions and Mental health experience within the last 3 years. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered. Active or Eligible Registration with CRNA or RPNs – Active or Eligible Registration with CRPNA College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources preferred. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies.
