Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse
Your Opportunity:
One in five people experience a mental health concern. Located at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, the Young Adult Evaluation, Treatment and Reintegration Service (Unit 12-A) is a short stay, fast-paced 26-bed acute care multidisciplinary psychiatry program for medically stable clients who are between 17 and 26 years of age. This inpatient program is intended for clients diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder who require recovery-based support and interventions as they transition from an acute phase of illness toward stabilization. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse follows Recovery Alberta clinical policies to provide a range of client care services including assessment, care planning, medication administration, and continuous quality improvement/ evaluation.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of one year of recent (within past three years) experience in a Mental Health and Addiction nursing role. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and the Health Information Act. Working knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychopathology. Working knowledge of trauma-informed care principles is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated accountability are required.
Preferred Qualifications:A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is preferred; however, a Diploma in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing will be considered. Education and experience that specializes in Adolescent/Young Adult Addiction and Mental Health assessment and treatment are preferred. Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care is an asset. Working knowledge of harm reduction model preferred.
