Unit 61 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital is part of the Adult Acute Services portfolio of the Recovery Alberta Mental Health and Addiction program. We provide patient and family centered care, with all team members working within the CoACT collaborative care model. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for adults presenting with mental health and addiction concerns. The successful applicant will provide safe, effective, and stage-matched nursing care according to clinical policies, procedures, and evidence-based nursing care standards. The RN/RPN works within a concurrent capable, recovery-oriented framework, within the context of a multidisciplinary team. The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton is an exciting and fast-paced facility. Some of our accomplishments include being the site of numerous recent renovations and our patient and family centered Circle of Care program that supports the involvement of a patient’s primary support person in all aspects of their care.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic computer skills. Demonstrated organizational and assessment skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Demonstrated accountability, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, within initiative and self-directedness. Minimum 2 years of experience in an adult acute inpatient practice setting. Working knowledge of patient and family centered care principles. Working knowledge of the DSM 5, concurrent disorders, risk assessments, safety plans, psychotropic medications and mental status assessments. Working knowledge of evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment modalities A working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and Health Information Act. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) via Heart & Stroke Foundation Non-violent crisis intervention skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working within the CoACT framework an asset. Experience working with persons with significant mental illness and/or addictions an asset and preferred.
