Your Opportunity:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Center, you will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care in a dynamic and challenging environment. This position requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a high degree of professional autonomy to support the physical and mental well-being of individuals in custody. Key Responsibilities: Conduct holistic psychiatric and medical nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans. Provide direct patient care, including medication administration, mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management. Respond to urgent and emergent health situations within the secure facility. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity and quality of care. Maintain clear, timely, and accurate documentation in alignment with Connect Care and organizational policies. Support patient wellness through therapeutic communication, stabilization strategies, and ongoing monitoring. Unique Aspects of the Role: Work within a secure environment where safety, confidentiality, and professionalism are essential. Exercise a high level of autonomy in clinical decision-making and prioritizing patient needs. Engage with a diverse range of clinical presentations, including acute psychiatric episodes, substance use concerns, chronic health conditions, and complex behavioral challenges. Develop advanced assessment and critical thinking skills suited to a correctional health setting. Contribute to a team that plays a vital role in promoting patient stability, rehabilitation, and overall well-being.

Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
