Your Opportunity:
As part of the Mental Health Diversion team, this position requires demonstrated competencies in Community Mental Health and Addiction, as it relates to individuals who have come into conflict with the law. It requires collaborative work with Justice Services, Community Mental Health and Addiction and effective linking to other community-based services and includes responsibilities specific to screening, completing comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment, referral, writing court reports and intensive case management. Providing service in a variety of settings including criminal court is essential with the primary outcomes aimed at reducing criminal activity and hospital visits, improving psychiatric status and quality of life and improving functional capacity for individuals with a mental and substance use disorder who have been charged with an offence.
Description:
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 years counselling experience in a community setting.
Preferred Qualifications:A strong working knowledge of the Justice system and the relative challenges for those with substance use and mental health disorders who have come into conflict with the law is preferred.
