Your Opportunity:

It is an exciting time to be part of Recovery Alberta Virtual Addiction Medicine Services (VAMS) as we advance creation of a Virtual Rapid Access Addiction Service, and we are seeking a new member to join this innovative team. Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse will provide mental health assessment, provisional diagnosis, crisis intervention, restricted psychosocial interventions, education and referral services for individuals experiencing significant mental health and comorbid addiction disorders. This role will also perform rapid nursing assessments and screening to ensure safety and mitigate risks associated with medication management. As a key member of the VAMS team, this position is responsible for varied work of advanced nature and complexity, requiring a comprehensive knowledge base of psychiatric disorders (DSMV-TR) and will hold specialized clinical knowledge and experience in psychosocial and pharmacological interventions. The successful incumbent will practice from a strength-based, trauma/violence informed and culturally competent perspective utilizing a variety of evidence informed modalities, and will have experience in group facilitation, clinical consultation (physician, psychiatry, pharmacist) and interdisciplinary treatment planning/case management. A high standard of professionalism and initiative is required, with a strong aptitude for innovation, critical thinking and decision making. A solid performance history of excelling within an independently functioning, fast-paced, and high-performance team environment is essential. This position is provincial in scope, and occasional travel may be required. Key collaborators include leadership, subject matter and clinical experts in mental health, substance use, addiction, and concurrent disorders, and various interdisciplinary team members.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Direct experience in case management, group and individual counselling, knowledge of the process of addictions and mental Health and various theoretical models that guide intervention. Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care DBT and Suicide Risk Assessment. Knowledge of Opioid Treatment and Substance Use Disorder Medications and the pharmacological interventions utilized for treating psychiatric disorders. Working knowledge of DBT. 4 years of recent experience working with individuals seeking treatment of Concurrent Disorders. Accurate keyboarding skills of minimum 60 wpm and proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel), Zoom, Genesis etc. Minimum of 4 years of relevant mental health experience. Strong working knowledge of the addiction and mental health system across the province and the ability to locate resources that may be useful for callers based on clinical judgement. Advanced skills in assessment and intervention for individuals of all ages with addiction and mental health concerns, including crisis intervention skills. Advanced knowledge in suicide prevention and risk management; validated screening instruments, trauma-focused practice and frameworks guiding comprehensive assessment and treatment planning; and the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria; Strong knowledge of mental health and substance use concerns.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent keyboarding skills of minimum 60 wpm and proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel), Zoom, Genesis etc. Experience working with CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing and psychotherapy.
