Your Opportunity:

We are seeking a casual Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) passionate about supporting children/youth within Child/Adolescent Mental Health at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. The RN/RPN provides safe, ethical, developmentally appropriate, patient- & family-centered care while applying clinical knowledge, critical thinking & therapeutic interventions. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation & evaluation of care for children/adolescents experiencing mental health concerns. We are seeking RN/RPN with experience in child/adolescent mental health who demonstrate strong therapeutic engagement, communication, assessment & treatment planning skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, reliability, sound clinical judgment & a commitment to collaborative team-based care. As a member of the multidisciplinary team the RN/RPN participates in therapeutic programming & daily care activities that support recovery-oriented & family-centered care. The role contributes to quality improvement/patient safety/best-practice initiatives within the mental health setting. Effective communication with patients/families/caregivers/team members is essential to delivering safe, coordinated, & effective care. This role involves working with children/youth who present with significant mental health, emotional or behavioral challenges, including anxiety, agitation, emotional dysregulation & verbal escalation. The RN/RPN is expected to use trauma-informed, therapeutic & de-escalation approaches to support patients & maintain a safe environment. The role may also require participation in behavioral support interventions, including patient escort & approved protective interventions, in accordance with organizational policies/training requirements.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current CPR certification is required. A minimum of one year of recent experience working in a children’s and or adolescent’s mental health care setting is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication, behavioral management, de-escalation and assessment skills, along with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Knowledge of evidence-based treatments and medications used in the care of children and youth with complex psychiatric conditions is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be physically capable of lifting up to 11 kg, and communicate effectively with caregivers, families, multidisciplinary team members, and external community partners. This role requires the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety. Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred; equivalent skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team is an asset. Current certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or Effective De Escalation Techniques is preferred.
