Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the unit manager, the Respiratory Therapist I is responsible for assessment, therapeutic intervention and follow up of respiratory needs of patients receiving Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) in accordance with orders and/or approved protocols/procedures. The incumbent must be able to work independently as well as as with various clinical group members to enhance patient outcomes. Operational leaders will further define the role based on the department needs. They will complete patient assessment and monitor respiratory status. They will be working closely with the ECT nurse, Psychiatrist and Anesthesiologist in the ECT suite. They will assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy,tracheotomy and providing airway care, physiological monitoring and maintenance of airway during ECT procedure. The position will also work closely with Respiratory Services at the Peter Lougheed Center

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will assess patients, develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. This role requires you to collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments. You will be responsible for providing training and assisting health care providers in the use and care of various respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one’s feet for extended periods of time (standing/walking), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they have been trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients, be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment such as life support equipment up to 20 lbs. One-year full time experience working in acute care within the last two years. Experience working with patients receiving ECT an asset

Preferred Qualifications:

Current independent RRT acute care experience in ICU, ED, Wards Current NRP/PALS/ACLS certifications. CSRT Registration. Excellent verbal and written communication and conflict management skills. Demonstrated leadership skills.
