Working for the Adult Acute Services Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Department of the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health Programs located at the Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Reporting to a Unit Manager, the ECT Program Respiratory Therapist 1assists in the coordination and safe delivery of electroconvulsive therapy to both inpatients and outpatients from the Alberta Hospital Edmonton. The successful candidate will provide education and support to various patient groups and their families. Welcome and engage patients and families/caregivers referred to the program. Effectively address and alleviate anxiety and apprehension in a variety of patient and family/care-giver populations and assist in the pre-treatment evaluation of all patients. The ECT program Respiratory Therapist is responsible for setting up the treatment area, ensuring ECT equipment (including treatment and emergency medications) are available and assisting in the treatment area as per professional standards, hospital and program policies and procedures and in accordance with all legal and ethical standards. The ECT Respiratory Therapist is expected to provide emergency interventions as required and to be cross-trained/competent with the ECT Recovery room responsibilities. Within the guidelines and policies set down by Respiratory Therapy Services. The Respiratory Therapist I will provide respiratory care to patients in ICU, Wards and Emergency (modify as needed) as required.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist, you will assess patients, develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. This role requires you to collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments. You will be responsible for providing training and assisting health care providers in the use and care of various respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:The successful candidate must be a graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Maintaining current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy advances and changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be highly motivated, confident, enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You work independently and as a part of the team, creating effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively, able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:Current or previous and ECT experience strongly preferred. Current CSRT membership. Certification in Advanced Life Support - ACLS. Intubation certification. IV Insertion certification. Experience precepting students. Developing quality initiatives and implementing practice change, and active participation on committees. Connect Care experience preferred.
