Service Worker I
Your Opportunity:
The Service Worker I is an exciting role within the multidisciplinary team with Correctional Health Services at Calgary Remand Centre. Under the direction of the Assistant Manager the Service Worker I works independently to contribute to safe patient care and the efficiency of the unit within a correctional setting. The Service Worker I is an essential member of the team and is responsible for organizing inventory, ordering supplies, maintaining, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, and stocking patient care areas. In addition, the Service Worker I is responsible for organizing and cleaning a variety of healthcare areas including the nursing station, staff lounge, medication room, patient treatment spaces and staff offices. The Service Worker I also supports the maintenance and care of the dental area and equipment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and independently lift up to 40lbs and push/pull up to 50lbs required. Position also requires bending, squatting and reaching above head. Hand dexterity required to handle equipment and supplies.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/ residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Additional Required Qualifications:Please note, due to system limitations, this role differs from the Position Summary. Please include a resume and cover letter. The position is responsible for the day-to-day cleaning, organizing and maintaining of the health services areas in a correctional setting. Physical endurance is required. Critical thinking, prioritizing requests, and scheduling time as necessary. Fluent in speaking/reading/writing English. Must be able to follow verbal & written instructions. Reliable, cooperative and ability to demonstrate effective service attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous corrections and/or acute care experience is an asset. Knowledge of corrections procedures and equipment operation. Customer service experience. Previous related job experience. A valid WHMIS certificate is an asset. Basic computer proficiency and experience with Connect Care. Trained in the “Move Safe” ergonomic program and the “It’s Your Move” client handling program. Experience with CPSM and procurement. Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE) as asset.
