Come experience the unique rewards of working in correctional Health Services! We have an exciting opportunity for four dedicated Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join our multi-disciplinary team. The RPN role will be responsible for collaborating with the team to facilitate the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care that meets the needs of individuals within a secure setting. Your responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs. Your scope of practice will encompass physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and risk assessment. The RPN role will also be responsible for creating and implementing treatment plans, administering medication, and supporting discharge planning for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring mental health and addiction goals. The RPN uses multiple learning modalities to support patient understanding of health care, health promotion and health maintenance within the Recovery Model. The successful candidate will also cross train to other patient areas within Correctional Health as needed. There are 4 positions available.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Ability to perform Restricted Activities. Working knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Experience in administering the Mental Status examination. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessments (suicide risk). Working knowledge or experience with a variety of therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, Supportive therapy, Motivational interviewing). Demonstrated leadership, organizational and clinical skills, in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment required.
Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency in Connect Care. Knowledge/Understanding of DSM-IV and V preferred. IV certification preferred. N95 fit testing. Experience responding to codes.
