Complex Medical Detox (CMD) is a 6-bed unit with a 2:1 nursing ratio to accommodate the high acuity of our client base. We are looking for nurses who enjoy working with acute and complex medical patients and who also have a passion for patient centered care with an emphasis on harm reduction. The CMD Nurse works as a collaborative member of the health care team, delivering holistic, comprehensive care to meet the patient centered goals of our clients. Our team includes, but is not limited to, General Internal Medicine, ARCH, Social Work and Psychiatry. The CMD Nurse provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care. Required to complete assessments, interventions, documentation and plan both hospital and continuing/community-based care for patients with complex medical needs compromised by detoxification. Must have excellent assessment, documentation, organization, communication, leadership and teamwork skills. Must be experienced in acute medical/surgical nursing with a preference given to candidates who possess mental health and addiction experience or the desire to broaden their skill base and understanding in mental health and addiction. You are an independent thinker with proven ability to problem solve, think critically and systematically. The care you provide is evidence based, safe and therapeutic as well as centered on both the patient and their family (origin or chosen). You are passionate about high quality and holistic care, advocating for your patients and educating your patients and their loved ones. This unique unit is looking for those Registered Nurses / Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RN/RPNs) who have a substantial understanding of addiction and recovery principles, harm reduction care philosophies and previous history of working with complex medical patients/ critical care (ICU, ER, Medicine, Surgery).

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse with 5 years years of previous medical and addiction experience required. Preference given to those who also have experience working with Mental Health and Addiction populations.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with intravenous infusions, direct IV medication administration, phlebotomy, as well as critical care knowledge are assets.
